BTS, known for topping charts and breaking records, made history once more by being the first-ever Korean group to become number one on the Billboard HOT 100 with their new hit single Dynamite. BTS joined Aerosmith and Jonas Brothers to become the only bands in history to have owned this title. The Weeknd, Jonas Brothers, and other artists congratulated BTS for their achievement. The president of South Korea, Moon Jae-in took the time to write a heartfelt message on Twitter to congratulate the group.

Dynamite is their first song recorded fully in English, which crossed 100 million views within the first 24 hours after release, breaking Youtube’s previous record for the highest number of views within 24 hours. The song had over 265,000 downloads in just its first week of release. BTS had their first stage performance of Dynamite at the VMAs on 31 August, where they won the Best K-Pop, Best Pop, Best Choreography, and Best group awards.

Dynamite was released on 21 August, Friday, worldwide. The song has a retro and uplifting 80s disco vibe. In the music video, the seven members gave an iconic pose of the legendary king of pop, Michael Jackson. As a response to this, the late artist’s nephew Taj Jackson reacted by saying, “Thank you @BTS_twt And thank you BTS fans for your continued support over the years. I have a couple of friends who got to know the BTS guys, and I have heard nothing but incredible things about them, their hard work ethic and being so nice. I wish them all the success in the world. They deserve it.”

The group’s leader RM discussed the message they tried to portray as the group chatted with Apple Music. He said Dynamite is made of positive vibes, energy, hope , love, and purity. The group’s eldest member Jin said, “We’re going through difficult times [the pandemic] so we tried to have more fun working on this song. We made this song in hopes of giving energy to the listeners. We’re glad this song turned out great and hope a lot of our fans can listen to it to receive the positive energy we tried to incorporate in the song.”

BTS made history several times by being the first Asian act to win the best pop award, as well as the first Korean act to attend and perform at the Grammys, the Billboard Music Awards, the  American Music Awards, and MTV’s Video Music Awards (VMAs). Fans are eagerly rooting for them now to be nominated in the Grammys.

Debuting in 2013, BTS was just another group among many other K-pop groups. The boy-band, consisting of 7 members, had to climb a slippery slope to get here today. However, despite the hardships they faced, they never stopped dreaming and loving their fans, known as Armies, which is what got them their phenomenal success today. The members took the time to thank and express their love to their fans on social media and said that they would work harder in the future for the Armies.
